You've heard of the Hot Rod Power Tour? Where folks like us would need to take 2 weeks off and cruise around the country? Yea, we don't have that kind of time either.
So what can we do here in our great state? We want to do as much stuff as possible in as short a time as possible, here in the state of Montana. None of us, including me, wants to do any additional work like plan on catering, getting chairs, porta-johns, ordering food, taking registration that goes along with putting a car show... *ugh* it's exhausting and no fun. I want to play in my car and drive it!!!! So what we try to do is time our tour to take in as much 'pre-existing' Montana motorsport action as possible in essentially a weekend. We have to do no work, we arrive at an existing event, have a blast, cruise to the next event until we're out of stuff to do.
As an example, in the 2013 Tour we started Saturday morning by driving 70 miles to Malta making 1/8 mile drag passes. Nothing all out, just doing it for the sake of doing it. Remember, your junk has to hold up all weekend! Got some lunch and headed to Billings (207 mile drive) to watch the late model and sprint car races out at the Billings Motorsport park. Also got some great track food there. Drove another (20 miles) into Billings, did some cruising and hit the hotels. Woke up Sunday early and drove out to Acton (another 25 miles) for some SCCA solo parking lot action. and drove home. Nobody trailered their car to these events, we drove them, to and from. all totaled about 670 miles!! When we got home, we felt like we'd been on an epic adventure together. Most of us will never forget it.
Doesn't matter what you drive, import, domestic, truck, lowrider, your moms camry, 700hp jeep, we just want to get as many car dudes together as possible to travel, go to and participate in events, and have fun, for one weekend a year.
And THAT, is the Montana Power Tour.
